Obituary

Ethel Audreydean Walker of Washington, DC entered peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, September 11, 2022 at the home of her beloved daughter Julie and son-in-law Johnny McRae.

Ethel was born in Culpeper, Virginia on October 5, 1932 to the late Lester Ford and Delzie Jameson.  Affectionately known by her family and friends as “Dean” she was educated in the Culpeper County Public School System.  She later moved to Washington, DC with her mother.  She began her career as a cosmetologist and worked at the Cardoza Sisters Shop.

Dean met and married the love of her life, Micajah “Teddy” Walker on April  25, 1954.  Dean and Teddy were blessed to share 59 years as a loving and committed couple.  Out of this union they were blessed with one daughter, Julie Delannette Walker McRae.

Dean was a member of Northeastern Presbyterian Church since the early seventies and was a member of the Self Denial Circle.  Dean was a faithful and dedicated member and was well loved by her church community.

Dean was an amazing cook and one of her many talents was making special dishes for family and friends.  She was famous for her dump cake, Chinese hamburger, corn pudding and spinach dip which was a must at holiday and family gatherings.  One of Dean’s favorite pastimes was sitting on her side porch and watching over the neighborhood, planting flowers and of course sharing stories of her grandson, John.  Dean cherished her years with her family and missed her beloved husband every day.  Dean and Teddy will share her 90th birthday together as she gained her glory in Heaven.

Dean was preceded in death by her husband Teddy Walker, her loving parents Lester Ford and Delzie Robinson, her brother Johnny Lester Ford and her nephew Zachary Brian Ford and her stepmother Anna Ford.

Dean leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter Julie McRae, a special son-in-law Johnny McRae and the sunshine of her life, her grandson John McRae; one sister Rebecca Mills; four nieces - Rhonda Chatmon (Carlton), Audrey Ford, Charlene “Bonnie” Ford and Marla Gissentanna (Bernard); three nephews - James Stewart (Judy), Daniel Reeves and Gary Jameson (Sandra); five special great nieces and nephews Andria Chatmon, Shalena and Shanaya Jameson and Dyson and David Gissentanna; special cousins Virginia “Jeanie” Jones and Cormora “Motie” Fletcher and six lifetime girlfriends Artis Dennis, Patsy Johnson, Marion Scott, Maureen Smith, Barbara Smoak and Moise Wilson and a host of other relatives and friends.
