Kirtis Smith was affectionately known as "Pop". Kirtis was born on
October 1, 1953, to the late Kirtis Edward Smith & Josephine Era
Banks in Washinton, DC. Our heavenly Father knew Pop served his
purpose here on Earth and was ready for his transition. He will be
welcomed into heaven by his parents, and his brother Donnell
Wayne Smith.
Pop attended Charles Young Elementary School and Eastern Senior
High School (1967-1970). He dedicated his service to The United
States National Guard (Army) and was honorably discharged in May
1975. Pop maintained a job where he served as a truck driver for the
United States Postal Service. Those who knew Pop knew that he
was naturally funny. He was always joking, talking trash, and flirting.
He loved his Redskins and crabs, Whenever Pop stepped outside,
you can assure he was repping his team in his Redskins apparel no
matter where he was going. He either had on a piece of clothing or
his Redskins lanyard with his keys around his neck. With a loving
heart, Pop would curse you out and in the same breath turn around
and ask for something, whether it was a store run or just a favor,
with a smile! That was him and you couldn't help but laugh at Pop
and his actions. Pop also had a love for music, especially drums. He
would blast his oldies as loud as he could and jam with no care in
the world.
