Lillie B Kearns

Lillie Broughton Kearns was born to the union of the late Johnnie Scott and Mary Ella (Hannah) Broughton of Monroeville, Alabama on February 5, 1950. She was the ninth of twelve children. On Wednesday, July 24, 2019, she exchanged this life for eternal life with the Lord in heaven. 

She received her formal education in the public schools of Monroeville, Alabama and graduated from Union High School in 1968. After graduating from high school, Lillie attended Alabama Southern Community College. After which, she attended Knoxville College, where she met her husband, Ronald, and  received  her B.S. Business Commerce.

In 1972 Lillie began her employment with the National Education Association in Washington, DC. During her thirty year career, she served NEA as an Executive Assistant, Lead Secretary and manager. She planned and executed conferences all over the United States. She was known for her unique flair that made conference banquets a special experience for NEA members and conference attendees.

She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Antioch Baptist Church No. 3 in Monroeville, Alabama. After marriage, she was ordained as a Deacon and an Elder at Sargent Memorial Presbyterian Church, USA, in the mid 80’s. In 2012, she became a member of People’s Congregational United Church of Christ with her husband.

At the age of 42, she was blessed with a daughter, Tiffany Angelica. She loved to travel with her husband for his musical endeavors as well as pleasure. She also enjoyed chatting with her sisters, reading, dancing, and cooking. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Johnnie Scott and Mary Ella (Hannah) Broughton and her three brothers John Ervin, Lathern, and Leonard Broughton. 

Lillie leaves to cherish her memories a devoted husband, Ronald E. Kearns; a daughter, Tiffany Kearns; sisters, Lula Mae (Bosie) Williams-Brown, Airlean McMillan, Jannie (Wellesley) Washington, Paralee Broughton; brothers, Rev. Edward (Mae Belle) Broughton, Herman (Ernestine) Broughton, Thomas (Lucendia) Broughton, Dr. Raymond (Diahann) Broughton; brother-in-law Rev. Curtis (Ann) Kearns, sister-in-laws Ida Kearns Adams, Shirley Broughton, Willie Ruth Broughton, and Geraldine Broughton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a best friend Janet Ariola (Mama Red), as well as other loving relatives and friends.
