Mary Frances Boyd was born August 11, 1938 to the late Leola Taylor (Williams) and Louis Burton. She suddenly departed this earthly life on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the age of 84.
Mary was baptized at an early age in Montgomery, Alabama by the late Rev. J.J. Rose, at the Peoples Baptist Church. She later moved to Washington, DC in 1964 and was employed by Dickey's Cleaners for 10 Years. In 1975 Mary embarked on a new career with Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority as a bus operator. After years of exemplary public service Mary was promoted to the position of Station Manager. She retired in 2005, following over 30 years of devoted service.
Mary enjoyed working at Metro because it allowed her the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. She knew how to make you laugh with a corny joke and/or words of wisdom. If that didn't make you smile, her homemade sour cream pound cake surely did the trick. She was a true football fan of the Redskins (now Washington Commanders).
Mary was the matriarch of the family. She loved spending time with her family as she became a source of comfort, love, wisdom and support for the family.
Mary is survived by her daughter Lynn Boyd; 3 grandchildren, Latisha (Tia) Boyd, Tamarcus Murchison, Erica Huff; great-grandchildren JaQuan, Deondre, Jeremiah, Victoria, and Bryce; 3 Sisters and 1 Brother; and a close cousin Bobbie Murphy. She will also be cherished by a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins & friends both personal and professional.
Mary is preceded in death by her son; Mitchell Boyd, her first cousin; Loretta Moore, and her god-sister; Jewes Mae Harrington.
