Rosalee “Audrey” Moss
Daughter of the late Carey and Rosa Bryant, was born December 16, 1927 in Baltimore, Maryland. Audrey was raised by her grandparents, the late Cornelius and Emma Jane Bryant, in Hobgood, North Carolina, where she grew up and received her schooling. After graduating high school she moved back to Baltimore to live with her parents. She continued her education attending Morgan State College and Cortez Peters Business School where she graduated.
While attending Business School, Audrey met her future husband, the late Fred Thomas Moss. The two were married December 9, 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland. From this union two children were born, Jacqueline and Fred Jr.
In 1948, Audrey started her career working for the Department of the Navy, commuting by train and bus between Baltimore, MD, Washington, DC. and Arlington, Va. During this time she and her beloved husband Fred decided to make their home in Washington, DC. They moved to her current home in the Fall of 1956 where they raised their two children. She remained there for 64 years. Audrey retired from the Navy Annex in 1980 to come home and care for her ailing husband until his death later in that year.
In 1999, Audrey’s health began to decline. She put up a strong and courageous fight for the next 21 years. She transitioned peacefully, in her home, on Wednesday afternoon December 2, 2020, with her “Tommy” by her bedside.
She is survived by her two children, Jacqueline Moss Forrest and Fred Thomas Moss Jr. and one grandson, Rayfield Blackiston Jr.; two “Sister” first-cousins Merrion Raines of Baltimore Md. And Louise Gaynor of Hampton, Va; one Brother-in-Law McArthur Moss of Greenville, South Carolina; Ma Moss’s special baby girl Rachelle Stover and a host of other relatives and friends.
