Shirley Joyce Jordan
Shirley’s life journey began on September 5, 1945 in Livingston, Alabama to Julia Bishop and Walter Lee Elliott.
Shirley received her baptism at an early age and united with Christ Tabernacle Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Milton Brunson where she was an alto with the Thompson Community Singers.
After relocating to Hyattsville, Maryland Shirley united with Star of Bethlehem COGIC Bishop Harvey Lewis - Pastor.
Shirley’s journey would continue and lead her to Rhema Christian Center in Washington, DC where she served for over 20 years; Bishop Givens - Pastor. Shirley was a Sunday School teacher to middle age children and also attended Rhema Bible College. Later Shirley would become a part of Rhema on the Grove, Brother G. Vernon White, Leader.
Shirley and Bernard would be joined in marriage on November 7, 1992 until his transition in December 2007.
Shirley greatest joy was teaching God’s word on Saturday with Hope Ministry.
Shirley was an integral part of the National Federation of the Blind, Inspiration 3, Aglow, Hope Ministry and Love Fellowship.
Shirley made her transition on September 10, 2021. She is preceded in death by Husband: Bernard Jordan; Mother: Julia (Willie) Howell; Brother: Eugene Howell
Shirley leaves to cherish her memories: Father: Walter Lee Elliott (Tuscaloosa, AL); Brothers: Rufus (Brenda) Bishop; Lindsey (Martha) Bishop (Chicago, IL); Robert (Ceyla) Elliott; Kelvin (Irma) Elliott (Tuscaloosa, AL); Sisters: Peggy (Jerome) Bryant; Joann Bishop, Lori Bishop (Chicago, IL); Ethel Whitfield; Leatrice (William) Scott; Deborah Elliott Lee; Tonya (Robert) Williams (Tuscaloosa, AL); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
