I went to college with Kenyatta. We lived in the same apartment for a few months and were good friends for a little while. Unfortunately we had a falling out, which broke my heart. I’ve thought about it now and then over the years, always with some sadness, but nothing compared to the sadness of learning of his passing. Despite the heartbreak, I’ll remember his smile and his laugh and his friendliness. I’m sorry, Kenyatta. May you rest in peace.

I'm so sad to only now hear about Kenyatta's passing. I attended Hampshire College with Kenyatta and we lived together our first year. We were both transfers. I was taken by his warmth, kindness, and diplomatic style when dealing with some of the other roomies! We developed a friendship and had a beautiful exchange.
Although we didn't keep up over the years, Kenyatta touched me in an unexpected way that I'll never forget. I believe it was some time in 2015, I was drifting off to sleep at my girlfriend's apartment in Chelsea, NYC. My phone vibrated; it was a voicemail from Kenyatta. I had not heard from him for some time and we were not in touch, but he said "Hey Benny Oyama! I just wanted to tell you that you at one point made my life better. Thank you!"
That was it. I was so surprised, because we had at times a complicated friendship. But he reached out beyond that and gave me something so beautiful. I will never for get you Kenyatta.

Sorry this is so late - I went to college with Kenyatta and the memory of his beautiful smile has remained a pillar iny heart. He is still fondly remembered and dearly missed.

I am so sorry for the loss of Kenyatta. He was truly extraordinary. I am the Director of Spiritual Life at Hampshire College. My heart is heavy knowing that Kenyatta has passed. He had a sweet,loving soul. It was my honor to have him as a student in 3rd grade at St. Anne's. Please accept my love and prayers. May our gentle Lord bring comfort to all the family.
